Galapagos–I was very impressed how easy it was to get close to the animals. There really wasn’t anything we didn’t enjoy. It was a lot harder to see animals on the Amazon cruise, than in Galapagos, but I guess that’s the nature of things. Had booked a scheduled tour with another company and they cancelled the tour, so we had to scramble to find a company who could cover all of the places that were on the original tour. Lauren did a great job with limited time.
Accommodations Review
All of the hotels were excellent. The community homestay was a little spartan (and cold), but the experience with the family more than made up for it. The Galapagos Legend facilities could have used some sprucing up and the food was pretty dull, but the ship’s crew was great. The Manatee was much nicer (and the food was better), and the crew was also great.
Meals Review
Lunches and dinners on the Manatee were outstanding–waiter service and great food. Food on the Galapagos Legend was always buffet style, and not particularly inspiring. Because of the weather, we wound up eating two dinners in the restaurant at the Dann Carlton Hotel, and the food was excellent.
Crew & Guides Review
All of them were great. Patricia was an amazing guide through Ecuador–she was very knowledgeable, flexible, and speaks great English. Patricia was one of the best guides we have ever had. The guides on the Galapagos Legend (I don’t remember his name) and on the Manatee (Kevin) were both excellent.
Transportation Review
All of the internal Ecuador flights went perfectly. We had a private land tour, so the fellow participants were great 🙂 On the Galapagos Legend, there were several large families with children, so we didn’t socialize much. On the Manatee, there were only 6 passengers (including us). Not very profitable for the cruise company, but great for us.
AdventureSmith Explorations Review
Lauren did a fantastic job of creating a custom itinerary, and keeping us informed about what we needed to do (particularly Covid issues). I was very pleased with the service from AdventureSmith, and I will recommend them to our friends. We have already been to Alaska twice and Antarctica once, so I don’t know if we will be returning to the destinations that you serve, but if we do, we will definitely use AdventureSmith.
